If you’re tired of…
- Feeling powerless
- Your hard being overlooked
- Lacking a seat at the table
Let’s change that starting now.
In my new Linkedin Learning course, I share practical, science-backed strategies to influence above, across, and below you. All so that you can feel more confident and in control of your professional path.
What is Leadership Influence?
Leadership influence is the art and science of positively impacting people’s beliefs and actions to produce results. But that doesn’t mean resorting to manipulation. Rather, it’s the ability to inspire and guide others toward a common goal, even without relying on formal authority or power.
Leadership influence is that special something that makes people willingly follow your lead, not because they have to, but because they genuinely want to. It’s about having the charisma, vision, and communication skills to create a ripple effect of positive change, motivating individuals and teams to go above and beyond what they thought possible.
Leadership influence isn’t just about getting things done; it’s about making a lasting impact, earning respect, and building strong, collaborative relationships along the way. It’s about being that magnetic force that brings out the best in others and sets the stage for collective success.
Why Leadership Influence Matters
Leadership influence skills are no longer a “nice to have;” they’re essential to skyrocketing your impact, potential, and professional satisfaction – if you know how to leverage them.
After all, in today’s world the only constant is change. Companies are restructuring at a rapid pace, so the people in power today may change tomorrow. You have to be ready for transitions both big and small at any moment, and if you switch jobs, you need to prove yourself within the first sixty to ninety days. Leadership influence skills allow you to quickly assimilate and build trust in a new organization or with new supervisors and peers. You’ll feel more secure because you have a strong reputation and a network of relationships to rely upon when future changes arise.
Matrixed organizations, where you report to more than one manager based on your projects, are also on the rise. With decision-making and power decentralized, your boss becomes just one of several stakeholders who can affect your career path. You need a comprehensive understanding of who you need to influence, and you need to be able to persuade stakeholders up and across the chain of command. Having advocates and sponsors throughout your organization also means you can achieve bigger results.
Leadership influence helps you feel more confident and secure and get more done.
